What is Earthing or Grounding?

"Earthing aka grounding is literally putting your bare feet on the ground. When you do that, you're in contact with the Earth, and mother Earth is endowed with electrons, and these electrons are literally absorbed through your feet. It's like taking handfuls of antioxidants, but you're getting it through your feet."  - Dr. Stephen Sinatra

A sample of peer reviewed papers that study the effects of grounding on your body.

1.   Earthing the human body influences physiologic processes.

  • The continuous earthing of the human body decreases blood glucose in patients with diabetes.
  • Earthing decreases sodium, potassium, magnesium, iron, total protein, and albumin concentrations while the levels of transferrin, ferritin, and globulins α1, α2, β, and γ increase.

2.   The effects of grounding on inflammation, the immune response, and wound healing

3.   The biologic effects of grounding the human body during sleep

  • "grounding the human body to earth during sleep improves sleep"
  • "re-synchronizes cortisol hormone secretion"
  • "sleep dysfunction, pain, and stress, were reduced or eliminated in nearly all subjects"

4.   The effect of grounding the human body on mood

Good grounding environments:

  • Sandy beaches
  • Grassy surfaces (Preferably moist)
  • Clean bare soil (Parks, forests, and backyards)
  • Bodies of natural water (Lakes or the ocean)
  • Concrete (Not sealed or painted)

Poor grounding surfaces:

  • Asphalt
  • Carpet
  • Wood
  • Vinyl
  • Tar
  • Plastic or rubber soled footwear
